And come what may, I won't abandon you or leave you behind
Because love is a loyalty sworn, not a burning for a moment.
And come what may, I will be standing right here by your side;
I won't run away, though the storm's getting worse
And there's no end in sight.
Some talk of destiny, others of fate,
But soon they'll be saying goodbye.
But I won't leave you high and dry.
Because a ring don't mean nothing
If you can't haul the weight,
And some of them won't even try,
But I won't leave you high and dry;
I won't leave you wondering why.

A couple weeks ago one of my friends messaged me asking if I could squeeze in her friend for a maternity session (but there wasn’t much time left before the baby was supposed to arrive). Luckily I had a timeslot open up on my schedule and we went and did.the.thing! I am so glad, because we captured a little bit of magic last night.
We were racing against the clock as the golden sun peeked through the trees of Mt. Tabor. There were quite a few people out and about, so we had to pick our spots quickly, yet carefully. Oh and wrangle a lively five year old. No pressure.
One way that I like to sneak an image of just the parents is to have the older child help me pose and frame the shot. M had a great idea that I’ve used plenty of times - shooting through a leaf. I was impressed with his assistant skills, and you’ll see the image I captured with his help, below.
For having such a small window of light to work with, I applaud the H family for being troopers and trusting me - basically a total stranger - to get the perfect shots.
In this time of life when we’re all striving for connection, it can almost feel a bit foreign when we’re presented with the opportunity to make those connections again. Being isolated and distanced, only seeing our eyes… it makes me wonder how our kids are going to be effected by these changes. When I first walked up, I could feel a sense of trepidation and shyness (maybe I’m just projecting). But when I showed M my face for a moment, the mood totally changed.
Your faces, your light, your love. Your bonds and family ties. These are the moments and memories I want to freeze in time for you. Now more than ever, we must work to keep these ties alive (and it can definitely be exhausting). It’s my job to help you keep your people close to your heart and in your mind. A window to look back through, to a sweeter time, even in the midst of chaos and uncertainty.
I hope you enjoy a few of these moments from this sweet family (and thank you again for your time and trust).
-K.
