I love you til the very end
When your hair is grey
And you can barely stand
I promise I will never let you down
Tell me will you do the same
Will life watch the seasons change
Girl your tears will never hit the ground
Say you will
Say that you'll always be
In my arms
Swear that you'll never leave

This wedding was a long time coming.
In fact, I wasn’t sure if it was coming at one point, thanks to the pandemic.
But when there’s a will, there’s a way.
I had the privilege of photographing Shayla and Alex’s engagement photos back in February, right before everything turned upside down. It was a bit extreme outside - pouring down rain and foggy at the top of a hill - but we laughed the entire time.
I knew I was going to have fun photographing their big day.
When August finally rolled around, I was ready. Hopped out of bed extraordinarily early (for me), and made the road trip down south to my hometown. If you’re curious, I went to school with Shayla’s older sister (which is how we connected). Upon turning into the parking lot of the church, I was suddenly hit with more nostalgia than I normally get going back home (I had attended some events at the church during middle school - the only thing I remember was the back of a school bus, and their mom picking me up).
Now, about halfway through the bridal portraits in the church field, I realized that I needed more intimate portrait action than just midday sun in the shade… I needed golden hour, darn it. Luckily they agreed.
So, I waited (and did the rest of my job of course… oh and ate copious amounts of tacos and cake).
I should mention that the neat thing about the reception, was that it was at the blueberry farm where they met. As one can imagine, this place hits home with nostalgia and cherished memories for them.
By the time we made it out to the field for golden hour, we were exhausted from the day’s events (and all the dancing). Despite this (and the crazy heat), we were all laughing just as we did six months prior.
I gotta say, I do enjoy my job. It’s a treat for me to see two people so excited to start their lives with one another. You can really tell these two are head-over-heels, and clearly the camera loves them (so that makes it real easy).
When there’s a will, there’s a way.
